Gramps' Story

In the beginning, there was food… and Gramps from the earliest of ages has always had a keen interest in food and cooking. In his school days, boys took woodwork and metalwork and girls studied cooking and needlework. Boys were eventually given the option to take cooking as an option and Gramps was one of the first boys in his school to do so.

Gramps has spent most of his career working as a chef, working in kitchens at places like Gwernvale Manor Hotel in Wales and The Spaghetti Factory before being head hunted to work in the prestigious Charlie Parkers in Glasgow. After a successful career as a chef, Gramps gave up life in the kitchen full time to pursue a career in teaching I.T at Secondary School level. Although Gramps swapped his kitchen tools for I.T, Gramps continued to cater for various events in his spare time, including his daughter’s wedding - catering for the reception and completing her wedding cake!

Although he enjoyed it, I.T. was not his passion and after 10 years in teaching I.T., Gramps was starting to become bored. An opportunity arose at his school to become the new Food and Nutrition teacher, an opportunity too good to be missed and which he seized with both hands.

Gramps’ baking has always been a massive hit with family and friends, and whoever was fortunate enough to taste his foodie creations. A friend of Gramps who keeps bees and sells their honey (and is a fan of Gramps’ baking) encouraged Gramps to also sell his food at stalls…and so the concept of Gramps Bakery began…
